Territory Mapping
Territory Mapping began beside a fire in a remote Kenyan valley, where Anthony Willoughby sat with a Maasai elder who drew in the dust, not roads or rivers, but meaning.
“This is where we gather. This is where we protect. This is where the lion tried to come.”
It wasn’t just a map; it was a way to pass on wisdom, define responsibility, and remember what mattered.
That moment sparked a journey. Anthony went on to live with tribes in Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, and beyond. In every community, he saw the same thing:
People drawing maps not to find their way through land, but to find their way through life.
He called it Territory Mapping, and brought it back to the worlds of leadership, learning, and now, education.

What are you Hunting, protecting and growing?
Anthony is a storyteller, adventurer, and leadership coach. He’s spent decades helping people across cultures and industries draw their own maps, from Maasai warriors to multinational CEOs.
“You can’t lead others until you can draw your own map.”
– Anthony Willoughby
His work is the heart of Dupoto and still fuels everything we do.

From the mountains to the classroom
Territory Mapping is a tool for self-awareness, leadership, and growth.
At its core, it's a visual way to explore four timeless questions:
Who am I?
What do I stand for?
What challenges do I face?
What do I want to leave behind?
Originally used by tribal leaders, athletes, and CEOs, Territory Mapping has now been adapted by the Dupoto team into a powerful method for students, educators, families, and school leaders bringing purpose, direction, and wellbeing into daily life.
In the communities Anthony lived with, maps weren’t about roads or territory.
They were about belonging.
A hand-drawn map showed your values, your relationships, your responsibilities, and where you stood in the world.
It became clear: You can’t lead others until you can draw your own map.
And you can’t thrive in a community unless you know your place within it.
Understand yourself to understand others
